Alderwood Vision Clinic (Lynnwood)

The clinic was founded by Nancy G. Torgerson, O.D., F.C.O.V.D., past president of the College of Vision Development, which trains and certifies specialized optometrists who diagnose a wide range of vision problems. Alderwood Vision Clinic has a team of optometrists who do an in-depth diagnosis and develop a treatment plan for each patient. A team of vision therapists works with patients once or twice a week. Alderwood Vision Clinic is the preeminent vision therapy clinic in the region.

They have extensive experience and a successful track record with concussion patients who often have multiple vision problems that have gone undiagnosed by their family optometrist or general practitioner.

Joseph N. Trachtman, O.D., PhD, FOCVD-A (Seattle)

Dr. Trachtman offers visual rehabilitation, neurofeedback (or biofeedback) for vision, and optometric vision therapy. Dr. Trachtman has invented biofeedback devices for vision problems related to traumatic brain injury. Dr. Trachtman is a member of Vietnam Veterans of America and provides free PTSD treatment for veterans through the “Homecoming for Veterans” program.

They gave me the name of two ODs who they believe who be especially good for a patient with vision problems due to a concussion. They are recommending the specific doctors in these clinics.

Natalia Murinova, M.D., M.H.A., UW Medicine.

Dr. Murinova is a board-certified physician, director of the UW Medicine Headache Center and a UW associate professor of Neurology. She also sees patients at the Headache Clinic at UWMC-Roosevelt and the Neurology Clinic at Eastside Specialty Center. She has been listed in The Best Doctors in Seattle. Dr. Murinova was recommended to Concussion Alliance by one of the partners at Adler Giersh, a law firm specializing in representing patients with traumatic brain injuries.


Mark A. Fishel, MD

Dr. Fishel was the head civilian neurologist for a Department of Defense multidisciplinary clinic, during which time he treated several thousand concussion patients. He now has a private practice that includes treating post-concussive headaches and referrals to appropriate therapists such as speech, physical therapy, vision, and psychotherapy.

Dr. Seroussi is a physiatrist with a specialization in concussions and an innovative approach to treatments.

Functional Medicine and Sports Medicine

David Musnick, M.D., Peak Medicine (Bellevue)

Dr. Musnick has developed a Functional Medicine approach to concussions, with treatments that “integrate a brain-healthy diet, supplements, exercise, brain training, frequency specific microcurrent, hyperbaric oxygen, and neurofeedback.” He has presented at the Annual Meeting of the Institute for Functional Medicine on the Brain and featured in the documentary “The Broken Brain” by Dr. Mark Hyman. Dr. Musnick was recommended to Concussion Alliance by one of the partners at Adler Giersh, a law firm specializing in representing patients with traumatic brain injuries.

Coaching

Elizabeth R York, Ph.D., Traumatic Brain Injury Coach (greater Seattle area, and throughout Washington State)

Dr. York provides several coaching programs for those affected by concussions and traumatic brain injury. Her practice includes one-on-coaching for TBI survivors, return to work coaching, and high-risk TBI coaching, for those in high-risk sports and occupations. She also provides support for TBI caregivers, both one-on-one consulting and group workshops. Dr. York is a Washington State Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Council Member, among other professional affiliations.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Clinic

It is controversial as to whether hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) is useful for concussions. We hope to write an article addressing this issue in the future. On an anecdotal level, Dr. Nancy Torgerson, founder of Alderwood Vision Clinic, has told Concussion Alliance that numerous concussion patients at Alderwood Vision Clinic have improved after receiving hyperbaric oxygen treatments at Serene Natural Health.
